Woke up to a very wet day, which doesn’t bother me in the least. More time to write. But I did need to stretch this afternoon so decided that a little rain wasn’t going to hurt but why take the chance… hee hee

I decided it was a good day to go explore the Midway Railway Museum. And am I ever glad I did! Turns out that they are open just a few more days before closing for the winter and with the winter weather they are getting a makeover!

I was told the Railway Station that houses the RCMP display is going to get a facelift (inside with the upstairs being set up exactly the way it would have been back in the 1800s, guest rooms and all. The RCMP display will be moved to the main building and a new gift shop is coming too.

Where the RCMP display is they are turning that into the living room and dining area that it was once upon a time. How exciting! I had to get pictures of everything as it is now with so many changes coming and then next May when they are open again, I will definitely be coming back to see the new look.
Let’s take a walk and I’ll share what’s changing.
Here is where the new gift shop is going and this display is moving to the other side of the isle. The stuff in the center of the room is getting reorganized and better layout so that the RCMP display can come in this part of the museum too.

They have an interactive center.

Good ole classrooms sizes were more managable back in the day.

Cowboys and branding are a big part of any community history I think.

This Log cabin quilt design really makes the printed, on fabric, photos pop. Don’t you think?

Even the Post Office has to have history! And I love that this museum brags proudly of their first official one.

Quick peek in the Caboose before we head to the station…

Here is the Station house I was telling you about earlier. Upstairs will be opened up for people to see what a room would have been like in the 1800s.

My understanding is that this room is changing too, but I am sorry to say I can’t remember what they are doing. So exciting not knowing…

This whole area is going to look different next spring. I can’t wait to see how they do it up.

Kitchen is kinda cool. The cook stove on the right is similar to what we had when I was growing up… no I didn’t live in the 1800s. I just lived out of town where there was no electricity so we cooked on the wood stove and it was the source of heat for our house during the winters.
Back of the kitchen is the laundry room. Kinda looks like it’s still in use today.

What blog of mine is not complete without a fire truck being displayed. Ain’t she a beauty?
Tons of amazing farm equipment on display too. Too much to show off but if you come to Midway make sure to stop in at the museum and check it out for yourself. You won’t be disappointed. I’d recommend coming now and again in the new year so you can compare all the changees that are happening.

I also wanted to visit the memorial I keep passing on my way into town. I’m glad I did. This monument was erected to those from this area, who served in the great war of 1914-1918 and a plaque was also added for the Korean War.

Reading the names, I have to admit I got emotional standing here.
My prayer is that they always be remembered with love and gratitude and I hope the families found peace and lived life to the fullest for those who didn’t live.

That was my afternoon in a nutshell… Little Cat is keeping me company while I write and edit. Have a great evening everyone!
