Exploring the Riverwalk in Midway, BC

This afternoon I decided I needed to warm up so headed outside to the river.

Why did I need to warm up? Well, let’s see at 5:45am this morning when I let my Dad’s cat out for her own exploration the temp was 35F/2C!

Lunch time wasn’t much better as you can see.

Thus the need to walk and warm up. Dad asked why I didn’t turn on the furnace. I said I wasn’t ready for winter yet when a sweater and a good brisk walk would do the trick. And it did. He thought I was nuts. Probably … ha ha ha ha

Come with me as we head over the bridge and down the road to the Riverwalk path.

Welcome to historic Midway! Also known as Mile 0. To our left a half mile or so, is the USA border and to our right is more of Canada.

This hotel has been around for a very long time, but now it’s been turned into a private residence. I’m just glad the owner left the exterior reminiscent of olden days.

Further down the road we come to the airport. Go ahead and laugh but seriously! It’s an actual place where airplanes are parked. Includes a sign… see?

Ok, now that you’ve had some fun, let’s carry on with our walking tour… Oh here is the Riverwalk sign… We aren’t lost after all.

One side of the path we see time stand still.

Following along this path to the river is rather exciting. Wonder what could be further up ahead…

The view along the path didn’t disappoint.

Nature is taking over what man has built even here. Love how everything comes back around full circle in life.

Beavers sure are busy across the way there.

Even the bird houses are blending in with nature all around. I didn’t notice these on my way in to the trail but found them on my way out.

Didn’t get as far as I wanted on the path, the rain started and since I didn’t wear a coat or drive, I figured I’d better head back this time.

On my way back off the trail, I came around the tall grass and there was an old black lab with a ball in her mouth coming towards me. I scared her stiff. I’ve only seen dog eyes get really round and startled in YouTube videos or cartoons. This was so funny I laughed out loud and she dropped her bright orange ball to stare at me opened mouth. Her human came up behind her and I told her what happened. She said, ” You just came out of the grass without noise. She’s not use to people being so quiet.”

Smiling we walked around each other and off I went back to Dad’s. What a great walk it was. I felt so invigerated, I came home and wrote two more chapters in my novel. Time well spent, I think.

Maybe a movie, puzzle and tea is in order. Good night everyone.
