Christmas Countdown Day 8

What is a tradition and why do I seem so drawn to continue them, even when my son is grown and I’m on my own? Well, I understand tradition typically means, “the handing down or passing on a belief or custom “. At least according to a simplified translation of Websters dictionary.

For me it’s more than just handing down or passing on a way of doing something. It’s deeper, a feeling one gets from the experience doing of the tradition.  The shared memories we have doing, sharing and experiencing the event or whatever it is. Then again I love some traditions I have that I seem to find myself doing alone, as well.

Oh not because I want to do them alone,  it just works out that way. For example,  I’ve written a number of Christmas cards to those serving overseas for years, through organizations like Operation Christmas Cards for Troops Overseas and our Canadian military and navel services.

This year I was able to make all my cards. Which is another tradition I hope to be able to continue for years to come.  Not just for those serving but family and friends to receive as well.

I have a few more to make over the next few days but it’s pure pleasure to send each person a card made from the heart, even a total stranger.

So maybe tradition like “Christmas perhaps means a little bit more”.

Until tomorrow, good night.
